Open League 2016-4 seems to have replaced OL Easter as it finally kicked off on March 20th and saw a total of 25 teams ready to battle for a variety of prizes. Serene waited for this with a special kind of hunger and dived straight back into competitive football when finally given the chance.
The passion could not be doubted but it still proved to be a slow start with the team losing their first three games failing to produce the desired performance. The first victory was secured on the ground of Majulovich and things started to look better from there with the exception of a crushing defeat against FC Underworld who proved to be unstoppable in front of their home fans.
Among the highlights of the tournament are the intense match-ups against some of the biggest clubs including the 2:2 draws against Redwhite United and Angels SC as well as the heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Reactive FC with the score of 4:5.
Serene finished 5th and played 31 match in total, which is the new activity record for the club in Open League format. This in turn allowed the team to qualify for the random prize draw and receive 20k FSC in winnings. Iberia FC managed an equal number of fixtures but showed better results finishing 2nd and snatching the main prize of 40k FSC. For the full league table see the official website.
A number of new signings made their debut for Serene during this tournament and put in promising performances. Overall, the management is pleased with the level of squad rotation and how competitive the team proved to be in the league and is looking to build momentum from this. At the same time, a number of issues have been identified that need to be worked on. These will be addressed in the coming weeks.
